Our Project in De Zalze

Our Project in De Zalze

One of our latest projects out of Stellenbosch was a beautiful blend of shaker and modern finishes. Clever customisations and bespoke choices resulted in an elevated style that can aid in simplifying your home.

In and amongst the rolling vineyards of Stellenbosch, you will find a beautifully manicured golf estate called De Zalze. This 18-hole championship course isn’t only a fantastic golf course and home to Kleine Zalze winery, but it is also home to one of our latest projects. The project encompassed meeting our client’s custom joinery needs while overcoming some tricky obstacles. Continue reading to find out more about this project.

Our Project in De Zalze

This house was inspired by the beloved classic shaker style. We installed a variety of different elements to meet this style brief from classic face-frame details running throughout the home leaving only the gym and wine cellar. In these areas, our clients opted for a more modern look with reverse finger grips and leather cladding on the walls. The style was elevated with choices of lighting, bespoke handle selections and appliance selections aiding the home to be brought into the 21st century.

The project featured a substantial list of customisations as to be expected for a home of this stature. We were excited about the prospect of detailed custom joinery briefs that we received such as creating hairdryer pull-outs in the main and guest suites- which is such a practical solution! We also built a sliding ladder in the piano bar and built an entire wine cellar, which makes perfect sense considering Kleine Zalze is on your doorstep.

Outside we created a custom feature in the exterior bar by adding a cut-out in the bar for an ice-trough so that it is easier to access on those hot, Stellenbosch afternoons. This simple solution is a perfect example of how we can create customisations to projects to meet your lifestyle needs and how to effectively use your space.

Another clever customisation was when we had to come up with a way to mask the tricky DB-Board. Luckily, the DB board on this project was located in the scullery which is already out of sight, but to make it even more covert, we boxed it in and created a more appealing result.

While aiming to meet the deadline for the clients, we had to overcome a couple of issues- all that is to be expected on a work site. However, projects are always made easier when working with teams that have a can-do attitude and a willingness to make the client happy. On this project we worked alongside Rumour Has It Interior design, who are based in Stellenbosch, JLK construction and of course, the ever-present Granite Projects.

By the end of a year-long project, we learnt a great deal about perseverance and how valuable a good night’s rest is. However, at the end of the day, we love making our clients happy and to be able to find practical solutions that beautifully present themselves is what makes us tick.
